Mission Statement
Skylark is a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to advancing the sanctity of human life and sexual purity. Women and families facing unplanned pregnancy receive compassionate care and practical support to uncover the unplanned joys of their unplanned pregnancy. Our character-based abstinence program equips youth to postpone sex and avoid risky behaviors. Our team of staff and volunteers are dedicated to the optimal health of the clients and youth served throughout southeast Georgia.
About This Cause
Skylark is a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to advancing the Sanctity of Human Life and sexual purity. Under ideal circumstances, pregnancy is a joy for a mother and other family members. Unfortunately in our day and time, many pregnancies evolve at a time of uncertainty. Physical, emotional, economic, social, or untimely circumstances transform a pregnancy into a crisis. Skylark, as an extension of the local church, is an outreach of Christian love and concern with a unique program designed to offer guidance and compassionate Christian support to pregnant women who are experiencing crisis. Skylark exists to aid women who may not be aware of their alternatives by providing information, encouragement, practical help and counsel as they sort through their anxieties and fears. Skylark is committed to serve any woman in an unanticipated, stressful pregnancy regardless of age, race, creed, color, national origin, or marital status. Services are also made available to her family and the father of the baby. Our clients receive help with their respective needs through the local churches as well as referrals for existing community services. All assistance given by the center is free. Skylark, a locally organized and funded nonprofit ministry, is governed by a local board of directors and managed by a director who carries out the activities through a staff of volunteers. CURRENT ACTIVITY Counseling: Caring for the needs of women, family members, and fathers-to-be. Skylark provides abortion alternatives, spiritual insight, lifestyle changes, discipleship and practical life skills. Incentive Programs: A majority of our clients are unable to purchase maternity and baby clothing, supplies and baby furnishings. The Earn While You Learn program provides child rearing classes, budgeting, birthing, discipleship classes and other healthy learning activities. As a result of participation, clients receive vouchers redeemable for material needs. Free Pregnancy Test: Eighty percent of our clients come to us for this service. Early detection of pregnancy for clients provides for an opportunity for healthier pregnancy with earlier prenatal care. Limited Sexually Transmitted Disease(STD) Testing: Chlamydia, Trichomonas, Bacterial Vaginosis, and Gonorrhea Screening and treatment provided for clients. HIV Screening provided for clients. Treatment for HIV is referred to Department of Health. Limited Obstetrical Ultrasounds: are offered to women with positive pregnancy test. These scans confirm pregnancy, determine if the pregnancy is viable and measure gestational age. Georgia Dads Program: For every pregnancy a man is involved, but not necessarily as father. As a result, Skylark has a team of men to lead other men into a fuller role as fathers. BRAVEheart Teen Initiative: The character based abstinence program reaches thousands of youth through purity presentations, after school clubs, youth mentoring, father-daughter purity ball, and web presence. Students who are able to postpone or change their sexual lifestyle are able to prevent unwanted pregnancy, STDs, and the emotional issues connected with early initiation of sexual activity.
