Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity Putnam County is a Christian nonprofit organization that builds strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. With the help of our generous donors and hard-working volunteers, we are able to help provide affordable housing and resources to those in need.

About This Cause

Our Mission: At Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County, we believe that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live. Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. We are part of a global, nonprofit housing organization that works to eliminate substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes. We strive to advocate for fair and just housing policies and provide training and access to resources that help families improve their shelter conditions. Our Story and Impact: Since our founding, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County has focused on transforming lives and strengthening our community through affordable homeownership. We serve low-income families, many of whom earn below 60% of the area’s median income, and provide them with an opportunity to build and buy their own homes. Our partnership model requires future homeowners to contribute “sweat equity” by working on their own home and the homes of others, fostering a deep sense of pride and ownership. Why Affordable Housing Matters: Stable housing has far-reaching effects on health, education, economic stability, and overall well-being. However, the rising costs of housing make homeownership a distant dream for many hardworking families in our area. By building and preserving affordable homes, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam helps families escape the cycle of unstable housing and build the foundations for a brighter future. Our Programs and Services: 1). New Home Construction: We build new, energy-efficient homes with the help of community volunteers, future homeowners, and skilled professionals. Each home we build is a testament to the power of community and the generosity of local donors. 2). ReStore Operations: Our ReStore accepts donations of new and gently used household items, furniture, and building materials, selling them at affordable prices. The proceeds from the ReStore support our home-building efforts, while also promoting sustainability by reducing waste. 3). Homeowner Education and Financial Literacy: Habitat homeowners participate in education programs that prepare them for the responsibilities of homeownership, including financial management, home maintenance, and budgeting. These courses are key to empowering families for lasting success. 4). Home Preservation: Through our home preservation and repair initiatives, we help low-income homeowners address critical repairs, ensuring they can live in safe and secure homes. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for seniors, veterans, and others who may face barriers to maintaining their homes. Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are at the heart of our mission. Whether swinging a hammer, painting, landscaping, or supporting our events, every hour of volunteer work strengthens our community. We welcome individuals, groups, schools, and businesses to join us on build sites or assist in our ReStore. How You Can Help: Supporting Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County makes a direct impact on local families in need. With your donation, you contribute to affordable housing solutions that uplift families and break the cycle of poverty. Here’s how you can get involved: Donate: Financial donations directly fund our construction projects, and we rely on the generosity of community members, corporate sponsors, and foundations to sustain our mission. Sponsor a Home or Event: Corporate sponsorships enable us to plan and complete construction projects and host community events. Sponsorship options are flexible and offer unique benefits for our partners. Volunteer: Whether it’s at a build site, in our ReStore, or as a supporter during special events, your time and talents make a difference. Shop or Donate at the ReStore: Proceeds from ReStore sales help fund our housing projects, and donations of furniture, appliances, and building materials are always welcome. Community Partnerships: We are grateful for the support of businesses, foundations, and community organizations that share our vision. Our Vision for the Future: Looking ahead, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County aims to expand its impact by building even more homes, launching new repair programs, and strengthening our ReStore operations. We hope to engage more community members and partners to join us in addressing the housing crisis that affects our neighbors. Together, we can create a future where every family in Putnam County has the opportunity to achieve stability, self-reliance, and a decent place to call home. Thank you for your support of Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County. With your help, we are not just building homes—we are building hope.
