About This Cause

Refugee Women’s Network (RWN) is a 501c3 organization serving refugees resettled in the state of Georgia. We are a Women of Color, immigrant, and refugee-led organization, with a mission to support survivors of war, conflict, and displacement in overcoming cultural and systemic barriers to achieving healthy, self-sufficient, and fulfilling lives. The Women and Girls of Color (WGOC) that we serve, face the additional deficits brought on by lack of English language, lack of education, and limited work experience, along with the carried teachings of the oppressive systems they’ve left behind in their origin countries. We work to address these barriers through culturally sensitive, community -led, and grassroots responses that meet women where they are. The Organization was created by immigrant and refugee women who were dedicated to addressing the special needs of recently arriving refugee and immigrant women through leadership training, education economic empowerment, and advocacy. RWN is governed by a diverse constituency of women, all of them with immigrant and refugee backgrounds. RWN Board members are professional women who are committed to giving back and serving refugee and immigrant women and families. Refugee Women's Network, Inc (RWN) works with women from diverse backgrounds often fleeing war, persecution, torture, and trauma are severely disadvantaged upon resettlement. RWN has defined our clients as a refugee or immigrant women, in various resettlement phases focused on rebuilding their new lives in their new communities. Approximately 80% of the women that participate in our programs are considered low-income and are at or below 200% of the national poverty line. The leadership and personnel representing are continuously working on team development to maintain and create trust within the organization and with the respective refugee and immigrant communities served. As a women-serving organization, the form of our group is reflective and representative of an all-women staff. The women that reach out to RWN feel safe and represented in gender, language, and culture. RWN’s spectrum of services meets women where they are; whether they’ve been in the US for three months or three years. Whether they need help enrolling their children in school or they’re preparing to open their own businesses, we help women on their journey to become independent and self-sufficient. Our Programs: Leadership Training Program gives refugee and immigrant women the skills and confidence to take on leadership roles in their work and community, advocating for themselves, their families, and their communities. Women’s Economic Empowerment Program equips refugee and immigrant women with the knowledge and resources to become economically self–sufficient through employment, entrepreneurship development, financial literacy and career pathways program. Chef’s Club is an entrepreneurship program for female chefs from diverse cultures to become independent leaders in the food industry. Lending Circles provides training and access to credit-building loans through a shared community practice. Career Pathways program in partnership with Frazer Center and International Community School (ICS) will graduate women with CDA(Child Development Associate) and certified teachers and provide refugee and immigrant women with an opportunity to have meaning employment in their new country. Social Adjustment Program services help refugees integrate into their new homeland, encouraging self-reliance, and community cohesion so that individuals and families can successfully navigate their new lives. Community Health Promoter Program identifies and trains female Community Health Promoters (CHPs) from multicultural backgrounds in a train-the-trainer and resource development initiative whereby they support comprehensive outreach in newcomer communities with culturally and linguistically accessible health information. The need for response and support around physical and mental health spawned our newest Community Health Groups: Yoga, Wellness, and the Women’s Hiking Group. Civic Engagement Program: Refugee Women’s Network encourages, empowers, and equips our community members to influence their local and larger politics. RWN allows community members to engage in civic and socioeconomic problem-identifying discussions and problem-solving actions that matter to them and their communities. We partner and collaborate alongside other local and relative organizations seeking to advance our communities’ civic engagement and education. Youth Development Program: The goal of the Program meets our youth where their needs are by bringing comprehensive health resources, financial and future readiness support, and civic education directly to them. The target population are the refugee, first and second generation, immigrant youth in Clarkston and Metro Atlanta; rising ninth graders through college underclassmen. Program For Senior Refugees: The goal of this Program is to assist the older refugee and immigrant men and women in achieving access to existing senior services, decrease barriers to participation in various services and help improve their wellbeing
