Mission Statement
Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando educates, shelters, places, and heals pets and their families with compassionate, responsible care maintained to the highest professional standards. Our vision is to create a more caring community by promoting happier, healthier pets and their families.
About This Cause
Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is Central Florida's oldest and largest nonprofit animal shelter. Since 1937, the organization has worked to provide shelter, food and care for homeless dogs and cats, offer affordable veterinary services to the public through our clinics and managed outreach programs that help keep people and pets together. Each year, more than 7,000 homeless dogs and cats enter our two shelters. They stay with us until they find their next forever home and are provided with high quality care and attention. In addition to sheltering, Pet Alliance has an extensive foster network that cares for kittens and puppies that enter the shelter but are not old enough to be adopted. The average length of stay for dogs is 9-days and the average length of stay for cats is 14-days. Pet Alliance prides itself on having length of stays well below national averages. Pet Alliance also focuses its work on providing services that will prevent animals form ever entering the shelter. This includes the Pet Apartment Registry that lists apartment complexes that do not have weight or size restrictions for dogs and the Community Cat Initiative that is working on targeted high volume trap-neuter-release of community/feral cats to help reduce the number of unwanted kittens being born. Pet Alliance also provides food and vet care for low income seniors via the Animeals on Wheels program and free food to residents in need through the Pet Food Pantry. Pet Alliance's two public veterinary clinics provide affordable wellness care and spay/neuter surgeries for community members with pets. Each year, more than 35,000 patients are seen at the two clinics. The veterinarians also take part in community spay/neuter efforts with our partners in Orange County and the City of Orlando.
