Mission Statement
The YMCA of the Suncoast is a cause-driven charitable organization that strengthens the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
About This Cause
The YMCA of the Suncoast is a cause-driven charitable organization that strengthens the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Serving 100,000 men, women, and children in Levy, Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties of Florida, the Y works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income, race, religion, ability, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The YMCA of the Suncoast has been in operation since 1957 when it was chartered by the YMCA of the USA (YUSA). Our Y fulfills its Mission each and every day - to promise and deliver lasting personal and social change. We are proud to be an organization that offers programs and services to all. Local YMCAs collectively are the country's largest community service organization, providing values-based experiences that strengthen the foundation of our communities. All YMCA programs are tools YMCAs use to accomplish their mission, achieve their vision, and reinforce the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Our YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving America’s health and well-being, giving back to our community, and supporting our neighbors. Youth Development: Our YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe all kids have great potential and deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve to learn, grow, and thrive. That’s why we help young people cultivate the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement to learn, grow, and thrive. Our YMCA programs, such as before and after-school care for elementary and middle school-age students, summer camp, leader’s clubs, water safety, youth sports, mentoring programs, teen programs, and others, offer a range of experiences that enrich social-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. Healthy Living: The Y is committed to improving America’s health and well-being, community by community. For nearly 160 years, the YMCA has included an equilateral triangle in its logo as a symbol of wellness, spirit, mind, and body, the pursuit of which has long been one of the organization's sought-after outcomes. We bring families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun, and shared interests. As a result, people in our community are receiving the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind, and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with chronic disease and obesity, families wrestle with work/life balance, and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programs are accessible, affordable, and open to all. With our commitment to never turn a person or family away because of an inability to pay for services, the YMCA continues to be the place in the community where persons of all incomes, ages, and backgrounds can find professional support for healthy behavior changes. Social Responsibility: Our YMCA believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. The YMCA of the Suncoast works to create a culture of philanthropy and volunteerism within our community. The Y is focused on advancing our mission by giving, asking, joining, and serving. We have been listening and responding to our community’s most critical social needs, enriching the lives of those we serve, supporting our neighbors, and advancing philanthropy in our community. Y programs, such as Y Community Champions (volunteerism), global partners, foster care family support, advocacy work, world service, and philanthropy, are examples of how we deliver training, resources, and support that empowers our neighbors to effect change, bridge gaps, overcome obstacles and give to those in need. We engage YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and donors in activities that strengthen the foundation of our community and pave the way for future generations to thrive.
