Mission Statement
Morning Star School in Tampa is a non-profit school for kindergarten, elementary and junior-high age children with autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities and related learning difficulties. Morning Star School is a faith-based and inclusive special education school committed to meeting the academic, spiritual and individualized needs of children by recognizing their goodness, their value and their potential. Morning Star School is a place for the whole family to belong. Morning Star welcomes all uniqueness as a blessing and learning differences as a gift.
About This Cause
Morning Star School in Tampa is a non-profit school designed to meet the needs of kindergarten, elementary and junior-high age children from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds who have learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and related difficulties. Morning Star has been educating children with special needs since 1958 and has developed a proven approach to helping children who learn differently. Children attend classes of 8-12 students and are supported by a caring team of Special Education Instructors, Therapists and school administrative staff. Many of the students need and receive on-site speech therapy, occupational therapy and tutoring services to help them develop key life skills. By using a team approach that relies heavily on parent and caregiver involvement, significant changes take place in the lives of these students. We are proud that most of our junior-high graduates go on to earn their high school diploma, with some enrolling in colleges and universities. Our goal is for them to become happy, productive members of their community. Morning Star School in Tampa serves students with these and other learning challenges: • Specific Learning Disabilities • Speech and Language Disorders • Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia • Auditory and Visual Processing Disorders • Executive Function Disorder • Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder • Autism Spectrum Disorder Morning Star School is a full day academic program for students who have problems learning. A complete curriculum is offered in a structured setting with small, individual progress classes. Students are provided the opportunity to learn, to feel important, to grow and succeed. The importance of personal integrity, appropriate social skills, and good work habits are emphasized throughout the program. Students may participate in an array of activities including Assemblies, Student Council, Speech Contest, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Program, Year Book, Gardening, Community Services, Art, Gala, Sports, Choir and more. Morning Star School teachers/staff, ancillary service providers and the families that we serve form a close-knit community committed to helping these very special children develop the skills and values they need to achieve greater happiness and success in life.
