Mission Statement
Champions for Children builds stronger families in the Tampa Bay region through our child abuse prevention and family education programs. We are the Tampa Bay region’s leading agency focused exclusively on the prevention of child abuse and neglect, which we accomplish through evidence-based and research-informed family education programs that promote positive parenting and child development. By working with parents in this way to build stronger families in which children can truly thrive, we are empowering the most vulnerable members of our community to reach their full potential.
About This Cause
Champions is the Tampa Bay region’s leading agency focused exclusively on the prevention of child abuse and neglect, which we accomplish through evidence-based and research-informed family education programs that promote positive parenting and child development. By working with parents in this way to build stronger families in which children can truly thrive, we are empowering the most vulnerable members of our community to reach their full potential. Established in 1977, Champions for Children serves the Tampa Bay region with an emphasis on Hillsborough County. Sadly, more children are removed from their homes due to child abuse and neglect in Hillsborough than in any other county in Florida. Nearly half of those cases involve children younger than five, making the need for prevention and early intervention all the greater. Though the services our programs provide are varied, all share a commitment to fostering five key Protective Factors demonstrated through research to protect against child abuse and neglect; guidance by the nationally esteemed Brazelton Touchpoints model for child development education; and a dedication to building and sustaining effective partnerships with other key community organizations. In total, more than 40,000 individuals are directly impacted through our programs every year. After taking part in CFC’s services, 88% of families report increased social supports, 91% of parents increase their parenting skills, and 98% of children are developmentally on track – including 95% of those whose initial screenings revealed delays.
