Abe Brown Ministries’ mission is to break cycles of incarceration by helping to renew the minds of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated citizens motivating them to change their behaviors and achieve purposeful lives.
About This Cause
ABE Brown Ministries, Inc. (ABM) is a Florida-based nonprofit founded in 1977. Our mission is to end cycles of incarceration by renewing the minds of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals, encouraging behavioral change, and promoting purposeful lives through the love of Jesus Christ. Located in East Tampa, our community faces a poverty rate 50% higher than the city and more than double that of the county, with unemployment rates triple those of the surrounding areas. These factors contribute to crime rates significantly higher than county averages. Over 47 years, ABM has evolved beyond prison ministry to include delivering the Gospel, transporting families to visit incarcerated loved ones, distributing food, and assisting with community reintegration through transitional living and workforce re-entry programs like inspHire. inspHire is a comprehensive re-entry program modeled after a nationally recognized initiative, helping individuals re-enter the workforce and community through case management, life coaching, job training, and placement assistance. We collaborate with faith-based organizations, businesses, community outlets, and the judicial system to ensure successful transitions. Participants undergo background checks, excluding those with sexual crimes. Accepted clients attend a six-week professional development course focusing on employment and life skills. Certified career coaches and case managers provide ongoing support, guidance, and referrals. Participants are drug-screened and observed in simulated work environments before job placement. The program offers support for up to one year, ensuring ideal employer-employee matches. inspHire uses the ETO data tracking system by Social Solutions to manage and track client progress and outcomes securely. Since launching in 2014, ABM’s InspHire has engaged over 6,500 formerly incarcerated individuals. The success of inspHire has improved public safety and reduced incarceration costs, with a recidivism rate of only 12%, less than half the national average.
