Mission Statement

Jeff Industries’ Mission is to improve peoples’ lives by pioneering services that sustain effective mental health. The agency is dedicated to creating research-driven, life improvement services for persons and their families who experience the effects of severe and persistent mental illnesses and those with coexisting secondary disorders as well as at-risk youth and families.

About This Cause

For almost four decades, Jeff Industries, Inc. has offered recovery-oriented programs that allow individuals with chronic mental illnesses and those with co-existing disorders and at-risk youth/families live healthy lifestyles, learn self-supporting skills and prepare for work. Jeff Industries, a mental health agency in Palm Beach County, provides a full spectrum of social, leisure, educational, networking, paid training, employment services and transitional/supportive housing. Jeff Industries, Inc., was formed when a young man “Jeff”, who was about to graduate from college, experienced a sudden onset of schizophrenia. He was committed to a mental hospital and after six years was released to the care of his elderly parents. Shortly thereafter, Jeff committed suicide leaving a note saying “I have no reason to wake up in the morning.” His parents, relatives and close friends started a grass-roots mental health organization and named it after him. At that time there were no community-based programs in place that assisted persons with mental illnesses in “getting on with their lives” and integrating them into the community. In 1983, Jeff Industries was incorporated to fill a need for meaningful community-based programs which assist persons with chronic mental illnesses in the transition from psychiatric hospitals to the community. Over the years the “LIVE, LEARN, WORK” programs blossomed into a highly regarded, social, educational, vocational training and employment model. It includes a Drop-in Center and a Work Center. The work center program provides hands-on training in a variety of skills (woodworking, sign making, graphic arts, embroidery, silk screening, media marketing, janitorial and facilities’ maintenance). It helps clients to identify and improve their personal barriers to workforce competitive employment. Clients develop individual work plans. These plans identify and address the clients’ barriers to employment and tracks their skills development progression. The staff provides skills training and reinforces progress. We use a team approach that includes the client, clinical and vocational staff, peer-to-peer counselors and other stakeholders. The clients transition from the work center into community competitive jobs, and to ensure their success clients are provided with follow-along services and support. The Alliance for the Mentally Ill Group Offering Support (A.M.I.G.O.S.) “Drop-in Center” provides social, recreational, educational and networking activities. It is currently run by certified peer specialists who also provide counseling, advocacy, peer support, assistance in learning self-sufficiency and teaches clients how to access various community resources. The program also offers food distribution to clients and the community. In the mid 90’s, the agency identified a need for housing for adults with chronic mental illnesses. “The Palm Haven Housing Project” in Lake Worth, FL was built by Jeff Industries. It offers permanent, supportive and affordable housing. In 2019, Jeff Industries started “The Palm Haven Recovery Residence”. It is transitional housing for individuals who need additional support in order to prepare them for independent living. They receive one-on-one help with everyday tasks of living including access to community resources, financial assistance and job placement.
