About This Cause

The Pet Professor Program is the cornerstone of our commitment to educating future generations. The curriculum includes respecting animals, responsible pet ownership, and safety when dealing with animals. Students recite the Jr. Pet Professor Oath. This hands-on program presents practical lessons that provides students with an opportunity to interact with a live animal. Pet Professor In School Program Specially trained volunteers and their screened pets comprise this elite team of Pinellas Pet Education Partnership teachers who visit nearly 2,000 students annually. Using a fun curriculum of interactive practical lessons, this program’s goal is to teach responsible pet ownership to elementary school children in grades Kindergarten thru Third. Teachers administer to children a 12-part “Junior Pet Professor Safety Oath” to encourage a commitment to respect all animals. Junior Pet Professors often help other family members and friends to enjoy a safe and loving relationship with a family pet. Partnerships include: Edna’s Pet Professor; Edna Klauser Trust, Humane Society of North Pinellas; Pinellas County Animal Services; Pinellas County School Speaker’s Bureau; Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Society, SPCA of Pinellas County, SPC-Veterinary Technology Program. The Pinellas Animal Foundation is proud to sponsor a Pet Loss Support Group created to offer those pet. owners who need and want to ease the stress and anxiety related to the loss of their pets. Listening to others and sharing one’s feelings after the loss of a pet can be very beneficial in coping with grief. Our Goals: • To assist pet owners in coping with grief caused by the loss or anticipated loss of a companion animal dog, cat, bird, horse, gerbil, etc. • To refer individuals to community resources for services in addition to the Pet loss Support Group • To provide a list of qualified bereavement counselors for individual counseling sessions, if desired • To improve the public’s awareness and understanding of the depth of human animal bonding and its benefits • To help the public be more understanding and sympathetic toward individuals who are experiencing grief over the loss of an animal
