Mission Statement
Our Mission: AMIkids is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping youth develop into responsible and productive citizens. AMIkids' mission is to protect public safety and positively impact as many youth as possible through the efforts of a diverse and innovative staff. AMIkids works in partnership with youth agencies, local communities and families.
About This Cause
AMIkids Space Coast is a moderate risk residential facility for teenage boys with substance abuse disorders who have committed crimes. The average youth has committed 15-16 offenses by the time he is referred to us by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. (This is double the number of offenses committed by youth we served seven years ago). Students receive free educational, vocational, behavioral, and mental health services during their six- to nine-month stay at our center, as well as meals, physical activity, counseling, shelter, medical, dental, and vision care. Since our founding in 1988, AMIkids Space Coast has have served more than 1,500 Florida youth. Ninety-five percent of our students successfully complete the program and more than three-quarters do not re-offend for at least one year after graduation. Last year, we helped 52 young men rejoin society as responsible and respectful students, employees, and family members. More than 100 certifications in medical and culinary arts were earned by the boys during this time, while twelve students passed their GED. On average, students gained 2.3 grade levels in reading and 3.1 grade levels in math during their stay in the program. Our free services include: • Daily classes offered as Brevard Public Schools alternative site • Exceptional student education • GED preparation • Class ring program • Community speakers • Vocational certifications in ServSafe and SafeStaff, personal fitness trainer, certified medical administrative assistant, CPR, first aid, EKG tech • Life skills curriculum • Experiential education • Post-secondary education scholarships • Group, individual, and family counseling • Behavior modification • Community Service Projects: Brevard Zoo, Habitat for Humanity, Brevard Animal Shelter , plus many more.
