Mission Statement
Meals on Wheels, Etc. is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for young and old by providing appetizing and nutritious meals as well as support services for seniors which enable them to maintain their independence and dignity.
About This Cause
The agency began with a small home-delivered meal program in 1973. Since that time, the elder population of Seminole has dramatically increased each year, and the agency has responded with an umbrella of services to support this growth. Core services include: Home-Delivered Meals Congregate Meals Children’s Meals Case Management Nutrition Education Transportation Homemaking Chores, Home and Safety Repairs, and Home Weatherization Services 46 employees and over 700 volunteers provide these services. A volunteer Board of Directors meets monthly. Over 15 years ago the agency began operating their own kitchen to improve the quality and taste appeal of senior meals. The kitchen was also established as a business model to raise revenues to offset governmental funding limitations. In 2004, the kitchen operation expanded to include food service to public and private childcares, adult daycares, and more recently, a fine dining catering service was established. For the past three years, the agency’s production kitchen is serving as the disaster-relief meal provider for Seminole County Public Safety workers. The agency’s target population are elderly Seminole County residents who are frail, low-income, and are at risk for malnutrition and premature nursing home placement. This past year we provided a variety of services to over 2,700 seniors and 2,000 children. Over 700 seniors receive home-delivered meals in a year's time, and the waiting list for seniors who are at risk for malnutrition continues to increase. Over 250 people are on the current waiting list.
