Mission Statement
To provide support, education and assistance to families who have a child diagnosed with cancer and/or a blood disorder.
About This Cause
Over 40 years (1983) ago, Candlelighters of Southwest Florida, Inc. was established to recognize the special needs of children diagnosed with cancer and/or a blood related disease. Part of our role is to support, educate and assist the family as well as the professionals who care for them throughout the illness. Candlelighters provides special opportunities where families can network and attend group meetings and enjoy various family activities. We believe, through education of the disease and its effects, parents are better prepared to make intelligent choices regarding their child’s treatment. Family activities and teen programs are created to improve a child’s self-esteem as well as to promote family continuity. Candlelighters is an independent charity and must raise its own funds to fulfill our mission. There are no funds from federal, state, or local government nor do we receive financial support from any of the national health organizations. We rely solely on the generosity of those we touch with our message. Candlelighters supports the families we work with and helps them throughout their journey, we are hands-on.
