Mission Statement
The existence of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties is based on partnerships and has a rich history of collaborations with local public and faith based partners. All Clubs were established in disadvantaged communities where need is greatest and where we can make the greatest impact. Evidence of our history of partnerships has been instrumental in establishing our organization and by helping us to make a greater, more measurable impact on kids we serve. For more than 25 years, BGCVFC has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances. We actively seek to make a positive impact on the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies fail to reach because we are committed to our community’s disadvantaged youngsters and believe that they should have greater access to safe places that provide quality programs and caring adult role models that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.
About This Cause
Clubs provide on-going relationships with caring adults; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; and hope and opportunity to meet the future. We provide after school, school release day and full day summer programming to youth ages 6-18 who reside in Volusia or Flagler Counties. Our members are typically the youth whose families cannot afford the fee based alternatives for after school programs. Despite the low membership fees, in the tradition of Boys & Girls Clubs, no child is ever turned away due to inability to pay. Many of these would go home to an empty house after school was it not for the Clubs. “Latchkey” children have been the subject of much research in recent years. It is common for latchkey children under the age of ten to experience boredom, loneliness, fear and a tendency to resort to crime. Ultimately, BGCVFC wants to promote positive behavioral changes, improved academic performance, increased interest in learning, expanded learning opportunities, stronger families, reduction in risky behaviors such as drug use and violence.
