Mission Statement
Gateway Center for the Arts seeks to advance the quality of life within its sphere of influence by making available and providing access to multi-disciplines of art and culture to promote life-long learning and wellness to people of all ages, cultural heritage and abilities, regardless of where they reside, or economic status.
About This Cause
Gateway Center was built to offer a diverse venue of cultural art services to enhance the quality of life in not only our area but areas beyond our immediate community. Gateway has many partnerships yearly. Gateway won the 2017 "Volusia County Partnership of the Year" award. These partnership allow us to go beyond ourselves and have a further reach. The programs Gateway produces include multicultural, multimedia, educational, virtual and leisure programs for people of all ages, including children, teens, seniors, families, singles, young adults and people with special needs. The programs of GCA enables the community to find opportunity for theater/art education, art appreciation, the production of art and the associated arts through the continuing networking of the Center with other cultural groups, elected officials and professionals to enhance art awareness. One of our largest programs is our annual summer program which encompasses 400 students in an 8-9 week period. This program has theater and art camps running simultaneously. On the art side, each week has a different theme and is run by professional teachers incorporating different mediums including pottery, acrylic, sculpture, painting, environmental outings and more. On Friday of each week, there is a parent show/display to educate parents on their child's experience. On the theatrical side, there are 2-week programs with different titles. The theater camps are also taught by professional directors with opportunities for high school age to learn and be mentored by the professionals and work as assistants. The theater camps end with 2 public performances by the summer students. One is an evening the other is a Saturday performance to encourage family members, etc. It is Gateway's mission to never turn a child away for financial reasons. The Center works hard to be able to provide some scholarship even just partial. Because Gateway is a non-for-profit itself, funds can be tight at times so we do the best we can to help any child have the experience of the arts. Our largest FREE event to the community is our Annual Youth Celebration for the Arts. It is an annual, free, public event that has become GCA's Hallmark event. YCA is scheduled each year with Volusia County or The City of DeBary in March. We are able to provide this event with the amount of partners and sponsors including Advent Health, Waste Management, Chamber of Commerce and local business partners. This event showcases up to 20 or more continuous performances by students throughout the day on a large stage which has been outside and inside. There is also participation in the visual arts area from schools that are able to participate and hang/display their artwork. In addition to the performing and visual arts, Gateway also has "Art Alley" which is run by volunteers and consists of free games and crafts including sculpture, painting and more for the families and patrons that attend. The attendance has been in the 1000's.
