Mission Statement
Family Promise is ending homelessness one family at a time.
About This Cause
Since 2006, Family Promise has changed outcomes for low-income families at risk or experiencing homelessness by providing temporary shelter and diversion services in Duval County. Our holistic, individualized case management works with the family to create stability. Families are the hidden homeless since they are couch surfing or living in motels. 30% of America’s homeless are families with children. More than 3,300 Duval County Public School students are homeless. This does not include their parents or siblings who are too young or too old to be in school. Two Family Promise programs address this community need. The temporary shelter serves families with children experiencing homelessness. The Family Support diversion program serves families who are unstably housed. Central to both is holistic, individualized case management focused on affordable housing, gainful employment, fiscal awareness, medical needs, education or childcare and other social service needs. • In 2023, we served 78 families with 318 family members through our Temporary Shelter, Family Support and prevention funding, • 12 families with 17 adults and 29 children were served in our Temporary Shelter Program. Seven families were homeless for the first time. • 34 families with 68 adults and 133 children were served in our Family Support Program, a diversion program. • Our Housing Stability program, which was part of a community-wide effort to move those homeless and impacted by COVID to housing, served 33 families with 33 adults and 71 children. • Since 2006, with our volunteers, donors and partners, we have changed the lives of more than 665 families with nearly 2,000 family members. • 88% of families graduated from the Temporary Shelter successfully into housing. • The average length of stay was 53 days in the Temporary Shelter. • 84% of the families in the Family Support programs maintained or improved their income. • 93% of the children in both programs are in school or childcare. • 93% of adults in the Temporary Shelter were employed when they graduated.
