Mission Statement
United Way of the Bluegrass fights for the education, basic needs and financial stability of every person in the Bluegrass.
About This Cause
United Way of the Bluegrass works cooperatively with businesses, volunteers, individuals, and non-profit organizations to invest in diverse resources for community-based solutions. Money raised is used to combat the needs of today and is invested in long-term solutions that get at the root cause of community problems. UWBG serves nine Central Kentucky communities including: Anderson, Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Jessamine, Madison, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford. The Big Bold Goal - 20,000 families will be more self-sufficient by 2020. There are 50,000 struggling families and our goal is to help at least 20,000 of them through a myriad of resources while working to improve the lives of all Central Kentuckians. We seek to move these families from instability to stability to sustainability. We will do this through three key pillars of success: 1) Basic Needs: addressing basic needs, injustices, inequities, lack of resources and other barriers to move families forward. 2) Education: leading initiatives to improve the quality of childcare, early intervention and equipping parents to make positive choices for their families. Focusing efforts to help children and youth achieve their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom and ensuring that more youth are prepared for college and career. 3) Financial Stability: investing in economic empowerment so low-to-middle income families have the resources and support to meet their needs, weather emergencies, and invest in a brighter future. To ensure success and accountability, United Way programs and program partners report every six months on specific indicators and outcomes. These results are combined into a collaborative report that is available online.
