Mission Statement
Since 1985, VIPS has been the only agency in Kentucky or Indiana to provide vision-specific early intervention and educational programming to children who are blind and low vision prior to school age. Last year, VIPS provided services to nearly 752 children and their families across Kentucky and Indiana. VIPS operates from offices located in Louisville and Lexington, KY, and Indianapolis, IN.
About This Cause
VIPS empowers families by providing educational excellence to young children with blindness and low vision in order to build a strong foundation for reaching their highest potential. Children who do not attend on-site programs are served through VIPS' Early Childhood Intervention Program, which sends a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or a Developmental Interventionist into the child's home or daycare, where regular and ongoing early intervention sessions are conducted. The VIPS' Early Childhood Intervention Program helps children to reach important developmental milestones and teaches parents how to become their child's best teachers and advocates. It is the goal of VIPS for every child who is blind or low vision, in Kentucky and Indiana, to reach their fullest developmental potential by the time they graduate from the program and enter their next educational setting, such as preschool or kindergarten.
