Mission Statement

The mission of St. Mary School is to educate the next generation of leaders by promoting the development of a Christ-centered, Catholic foundation while fostering academic excellence and service to the community.

About This Cause

In the gospel of Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives the disciples the Great Commission. The gospel states, “The Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Go. Baptize. Teach. At St. Mary School, leading students to Christ is our center focal point. The mission of St. Mary School is to educate the next generation of leaders by promoting the development of a Christ-centered, Catholic foundation while fostering academic excellence and service to the community. To Educate: We set high standards for student achievement and help students succeed in a balanced curriculum that integrates faith, culture, and life. Our Montessori program not only supports the language development of a child, it focuses on practical life, math, sensorial, world culture, as well as fine and gross motor skill development. The Montessori philosophy develops the love of learning and curiosity in a child. The benefits of a Montessori education were evident at the start of this school year as 8 out of the 10 students who transitioned from Montessori preschool to Montessori Kindergarten, began Kindergarten already reading on a first grade reading level! We continue to work with these students on their language development skills not only through one on one and who group instruction in the classroom but also by pulling small groups of Kindergarten students to work on target reading instruction almost every day. In addition, our Montessori preschool is 5 Star rated, the highest rating a child care program can receive from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Meeting the child at their specific developmental level is our goal for every student. Through a program called Elevate, we also provide individual and small group instruction in math, reading, spelling, and science. This program allows us to mix grade levels based on student ability so that student who need extra help can have assistance targeting specific knowledge and skills get the specific support they need. Likewise, students who are excelling academically have the opportunity to soar to new heights as they receive instruction well past their specific grade level. We also focus on project-based learning through this program and work on critical thinking and problem solving skills. Our goal is to never put a limit to a child’s growth, rather we want to guide them as they grow as much as possible. An example of this last year is when our forth and fifth grade students where completing middle school math. They were ready for the challenge and due to the flexibility provided in private education, we could push them well beyond what was outlined in our curriculum map. Another aspect to our mission statement is developing the next generation of Servant Leaders: We instill the value of service to others through our numerous service projects in the community. We teach children the importance of self-respect and respect for others as we emphasize moral development and self-discipline. Service isn’t an after school club, it is a part of our school identity and mission. We challenge our students to make these donations their gifts, not just money from mom and dad. Instead, we often see students often earn their donation money by raking the leaves or assisting with chores at home or even donating their birthday money. A Christ-centered, Catholic foundation: We partner with parents in the faith formation of their children. We believe that parents are the primary educator of their child. Through this approach, we not only focus on educating the students but supporting the parents through parent education nights. These are seen in Discover the Montessori Experience nights hosted by Mrs. Tiffany and our Montessori preschool program, trainings where teachers provide parents resources on supporting literacy at home, or even nights focused on mental health awareness. In addition, Father Danny Fister leads several faith formation opportunities for growth including daily Mass, the blessing of the pets, and a lesson on the Saints. St. Mary School focuses on the holistic growth of students and promote curiosity, problem solving, and hands-on, minds on learning. We are not confined by the many challenges of the public-school education system. Focused on each individual, not a set of test scores or attendance rates. We focus on building a strong relationship with every child and loving them as a child of God. It is my personal mission and the mission of our teachers to create good citizens not only of bourbon County, The Commonwealth of Kentucky, the United States of America or of this earth but of the kingdom of heaven.
