About the YWCA Greater Memphis For 103 years, YWCA Greater Memphis has been a trusted and consistent presence in the Memphis community for women and families. The YWCA Greater Memphis has also been committed to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and liberty for all. We help families move forward in their lives with confidence and with the tools necessary to identify and engage in healthy relationships. How do we help: 1. Domestic Violence Crisis Line (901-725-4277) gives immediate help to callers by directing them to safety and resources. 2. Emergency Shelter provides immediate sanctuary to women and their children who are escaping domestic violence. 3. YWCA Memphis Family Shelter houses homeless women and children working to rebuild their lives in a peaceful, secure environment. 4. Victim Advocacy supports individuals while they navigate the legal system for protection against their abuser. 5. Immigrant Women’s Services/Referrals helps domestic violence victims who face additional barriers such as language competency and isolation from family that interfere with women seeking help. 6. Job Training in skilled occupations (such as forklift certification, computer repair and computer literacy) lifts families out of poverty and into self-sufficiency. 7. Community Education spreads the word about the signs of domestic abuse, how people can get help and what can be done to break the cycle of violence. 8. Racial Justice. Rebranding Our acclaimed Common Ground Program brings people of all races together for conversations on race and how to make our community stronger. 9. Childcare for school-age children in public schools provides peace-of-mind for working parents.
