Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide accessible and affordable, high-quality childcare while empowering families to reach their fullest potential.

About This Cause

Our story began in 1891 when Miss Fannie Battle saw a need in the community. Children were left alone to roam the streets while their parents went to work. She rented a room in Nashville and began caring for these children by clothing, feeding, educating, and even obtaining medical attention for them. Today, Fannie Battle Day Home continues to provide affordable high-quality childcare to Nashville families. We offer a sliding scale tuition based on family size and income. In addition, we work to empower families through programs dedicated to career coaching, financial counseling, educational growth, housing assistance, and health & well-being support. While all Fannie Battle families pay tuition, childcare fees and subsidies account for only 50% of our operating budget. Donations received through programs such as employer match and employee giving allow us to fill the gap so we can continue providing high-quality and affordable care to our children and families. Our center is open five days a week, 11 hours a day (Monday through Friday from 6:30a - 5:30p). We provide year-round care and education to 120 children ages 6 weeks through 10 years old.
