Mission Statement
The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville is to “keep families close” by providing essential resources and a “home away from home” for families of critically ill children receiving inpatient or outpatient medical care at Nashville area hospitals.
About This Cause
Programs run by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville, the 36-bedroom Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room on the 5th Floor of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt offer a place for parents and family members to relax, refresh and experience the comforts of home while staying close to their sick child. Every year, more than 500 families find themselves at our front door because they are seeking lodging while their children receive top-notch healthcare in a Nashville area hospital. Open since July of 1991, the Nashville Ronald McDonald House has 36 bedrooms, and is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing hot meals, all the utility access one needs including a kitchen, laundry room, shower, and a place for families with critically ill children to rest. It possesses all the comforts of home, such as a playroom, a library, two living areas, and two kitchens. Families can maintain a sense of normalcy by doing many of the same things they would do at home: preparing meals, doing laundry, watching television, playing games, and having a safe place to sleep at night. More importantly, the Ronald McDonald House provides an environment of emotional support from staff, volunteers and other families who are going through similar circumstances. Since opening, over 16,125 families from all of Tennessee’s 95 counties, 66 counties in Kentucky, as well as 42 other states, two U.S. territories, and 14 foreign countries have called our House “home.” The Ronald McDonald Family Room, open since 2004, is a day-use room for any family of a child receiving treatment at the Children's Hospital. We serve more than 1,400 individuals every month at the Family Room.
