Mission Statement
Our Mission is to change lives by eliminating hunger in the Mid-South. Our Vision is Hunger to Hope.
About This Cause
Mid-South Food Bank provides nutritious food for those in need through a network of partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelter, youth programs, senior programs, rehabilitation centers, residential centers, daycares and schools. Our service area is 12 counties in west Tennessee, 18 counties in north Mississippi and one county in east Arkansas. We fight food insecurity and hunger through three initiatives: Feeding Families, Feeding Children and Feeding Seniors. • Feeding Families has two programs: Hunger's Hope – distribution of food through a network of partner food pantries and other agencies; and the Mobile Pantry – distributing food to underserved areas using our refrigerated vehicles. • Feeding Children programs include Kids Cafe, where children receive a free, hot meal, and the Food for Kids BackPack Program, where children receive a backpack filled with wholesome food to take home on the weekend. The School Pantry program provides boxes of food that students and their families can access from a pantry located within the school. • Feeding Seniors programs include the Senior Nutrition Program – a box of nutritious food appropriate for senior diets for those seniors who are able to prepare meals at home. The No Hungry Seniors program provides food that is single-serve, easy to open and requires little or no preparation for seniors upon discharge from the hospital or who are on the Meals on Wheels waiting list. Mid-South Food Bank raises awareness about food insecurity and hunger through all our programs. We collaborate with other organizations in the community to educate the public about the problem of food insecurity and hunger in our area. We advocate on hunger issues with elected officials and public sector policy makers.
