Mission Statement
New Hope is an urban, college-preparatory elementary school providing students with a challenging, intellectual and Christ-centered education.
About This Cause
Founded in 1995, New Hope Christian Academy is an Elementary School accredited by AdvancEd and SAIS and a member of MAIS and TAIS. New Hope currently serves approximately 420 PK-3 - 6th grade students. Additionally, New Hope resources over 120 graduates with scholarship money as they pursue their high school education at other Memphis Independent schools. Each year, 80% of our entering classes qualify for free and/or reduced lunch which puts their family below the federal poverty line. Student Ethnicity is as follows: 94% African- American, 5% White, and 2% Multi-Racial. Due to the income limits for our families, New Hope created tuition assistance for each of our students. While our tuition costs $12,500 per student, each family pays tuition for their student(s) based on annually reviewed income documents. Each year, we adjust the amount of tuition assistance for each family based on their ability to afford our tuition. Currently, our families pay anywhere between $41 and $12,000 (full cost for one student). As an added benefit for our New Hope graduates, we offer tuition assistance for the 7th - 12th graders who continue to pursue education at other Independent schools in Memphis. In the 2019-20 school year, we are supporting 122 students (grades 7th-12th) with a total of $1.3 million in scholarships as our graduates further their education at other Independent Schools in Memphis. Approximately 90% of our operating income is covered by donations. Since our funding model is unique, we are grateful for the generous supporters who have traveled alongside us throughout our journey. New Hope is located in Frayser, a community experiencing significant efforts toward revitalization in our city. Although our students may come to New Hope from all over the city, 50% live within a 3-4 mile radius of the school (Frayser, North Memphis, Raleigh). As we continue to grow as a school, we are committed to partnering with local organizations to improve the Frayser community.
