Mission Statement
The CCC is dedicated to building cooperative efforts among churches of Morgan County to provide emergency and short-term assistance to persons in need, in the name of Jesus Christ."
About This Cause
With support from the community, the CCC has been a voice of hope for the poor, hungry, and disadvantaged of Morgan County since 1973. Over the years, we expanded and changed our services to provide our clients with a multitude of educational and leadership opportunities, support, and encouragement, as well as assistance with food and basic needs. In the past, we were a clothing closet, provided a means for churches to pool their resources, and provided a soup kitchen. Currently, we provide 11 programs aimed at eliminating hunger, reducing food waste, and providing a route to self-sustainability for our struggling neighbors in Decatur, as well as the remainder of Morgan County. We have been serving Decatur for more than 50 years, and remain an enduring resource in our community. Each year we provide more than 150,000 meals to the community, more than 200 pairs of glasses, hundreds of packs of diapers, and fill many prescriptions for those who would otherwise go without. The CCC has changed over the years to meet the changing needs of our community; however, our mission to build hope and strengthen the community has been the golden thread that has guided our services for more than half a century. Over the past several years, requests for our services have increased monumentally within our service area. The continuing migration to the Huntsville/ Madison/ Decatur region of those seeking employment has created a substantial increase in the requests for our services, and already limited resources are being stretched to new levels to accommodate the need. With this in mind, we seek to empower clients to be able to care for themselves, and have changed our programming to provide a hand-up instead of just a handout. Some of the ways we accomplish this goal are through our Vision Forward program, which provides free GED classes and testing for adults who did not complete high school, Daycare assistance for single mothers seeking to get back in the workforce, case management, and need assessments for clients who may not know where to go for resources, documentation assistance, medical assistance, and much more. In addition to these programs, our food pantry, clothing closet, and furniture assistance are consistently available to make sure that needs are met in our community. Unfortunately, the need for our services is great and, much to our dismay, we have been forced to decrease services, limit programs, and even give less food than we have in the past because we simply do not have enough for everyone otherwise. Thus, we continue to pursue and explore financial options to maintain and possibly expand our services. With support from the community, we will continue our work to provide emergency and short-term assistance to persons in need. Join us, and build a better community through cooperation.
