COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF CENTRAL ALABAMA

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama, 35209-0000 United States

Mission Statement

Our mission is to feed people in need today and foster collaborative solutions to end hunger tomorrow.

About This Cause

Community Food Bank of Central Alabama acts as a central clearing house for collecting food that might otherwise be wasted. We solicit and receive both new and commercially excess, but fully edible food, from industry sources such as manufacturers, distributors, warehouse and storage operations, grocery chains, and individual donors. Additional food is purchased with monies allocated in our budget. The food is distributed to partnering non-profit agencies that directly serve those in need through their own programs. These programs include emergency food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, residential facilities for the elderly and disabled, and shelters for abused women and children. More than 240 community based partners in 12 counties depend on the food bank for food and other items. Through this outreach, over 10,000,000 meals were distributed to our hungry neighbors in 2016.
