Mission Statement
The Exceptional Foundation provides year-round social and recreational services for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Our programs focus on unique opportunities to promote healthy living, improve life skills, support social relationships, and foster community involvement.
About This Cause
The Exceptional Foundation was established in 1999 in Homewood, AL to acquire programming for individuals with special needs previously offered by Homewood Parks and Recreation. Each year, The Exceptional Foundation provides a supportive and engaging peer environment for more than 350 individuals with special needs from over 20 municipalities in the Greater Birmingham, AL area. Daily programs include art classes, sports and exercise training, educational field trips in the community, music therapy, social skills, sign language and nutrition and cooking classes. Without our programs, the majority of our participants would lead extremely sedentary lifestyles devoid of the many meaningful relationships and opportunities they often experience for the first time at our facility.
