Mission Statement
The mission of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) is "to help find a cure for breast cancer by funding promising breast cancer research and raising community awareness and funding for that research." Over the past 25 years, the BCRFA has funded over $15 M of breast cancer research within the state of Alabama. The funding supports research in Alabama, but has a nationwide impact through the discoveries of the research.
About This Cause
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) is a nonprofit organization raising money and awareness for breast cancer research in Alabama, with the ultimate goal of saving lives and eradicating breast cancer. One out of eight women, and one out of one thousand men, will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide, and the second leading cause of cancer death among women. The good news is that deaths from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, in part due to better screening and early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options. We are proud to be a part of that trend, and invite others to join us in “Funding Research, Saving Lives.” Over the past 25 years, the BCRFA has funded over $15 M of breast cancer research within the state of Alabama. The funding supports research in Alabama, but has a nationwide impact through the discoveries of the research. Research support is in addition to the funds we expend to raise awareness of breast cancer and the critical breast cancer research underway in Alabama. The BCRFA supports a comprehensive approach to battling breast cancer through collaborative and innovative research to help diagnose, treat, prevent and eradicate the disease. All of the funds raised remain in Alabama, supporting local research, which in turn makes a national impact. The specific research projects that we support vary year over year, based on results from initial research, as well as emerging projects.
