Mission Statement
Canopy Children's Solutions (Canopy) is Mississippi’s largest and most comprehensive nonprofit provider of children’s behavioral health, educational and family support services. Founded in 1912 as an adoption agency, Canopy has served the children and families of Mississippi for over 100 years. Since our inception, our services to Mississippi’s children, youth, and families have expanded to meet their needs. Today, Canopy offers a full array of services in all 82 counties.
About This Cause
The reality is that one in five children suffers from a mental health issue. Sadly, less than 20% of these receive treatment. Furthermore, one child in 44 is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder -- one in 27 boys. Faced with these epidemics, the children and families in Mississippi need a leader with proven solutions. Canopy is Mississippi’s largest and most comprehensive nonprofit provider of children’s behavioral health, educational, and family support services. It has served the children and families of Mississippi for over a century. Since its inception, Canopy Children's Solutions has expanded to meet the needs of Mississippi’s children, youth, and families. Today, Canopy Children's Solutions offers a full array of services in all 82 counties. The services we provide include foster care, adoption, homeless and runaway shelters, special education, mental health care, autism services, forensic interviewing, and residential psychiatric care. Guided and inspired by our core values, Canopy employs a diverse group of mission-driven employees throughout the state committed to honoring the voices of children and families. We ensure that the best interests of Mississippi’s children and families are at the forefront of national and statewide leaders. Our employees are published authors in national academic papers, research and journals regarding children’s complex behavioral health and social service issues. We seek to shape quality care through participation on a variety of boards and work groups including the National Association of Children’s Behavioral Health; Children’s Home Society of America; National Building Blocks Summits; Mississippi Association of Child Care Agencies; Mississippi Autism Advisory Committee; Mississippi Congressional Task Force; and various other statewide and national associations and committees. Because we excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value, Canopy is fully accredited by The Joint Commission. Additionally, we are licensed, certified and accredited by the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Mississippi Department of Health, Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Mississippi Division of Medicaid, Mississippi Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As a nonprofit, being a good steward of our resources is a responsibility we take seriously. The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office reports that 91% of our revenue goes directly to providing services for children and families. Canopy is faithfully governed by a committed Board of Directors. Additionally, Canopy has been recognized for outstanding management practices. Many public and private partners support Canopy. We are grateful for the support of the Mississippi Development Authority, Mississippi Department of Education, Mississippi Department of Human Services, Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Mississippi Division of Medicaid, Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the Department of Health and Human Services, County Boards of Supervisors, municipalities, corporate and foundation grants, United Way, program service fees and private donations in helping children overcome extraordinary challenges.
