About This Cause
Established in 1999 by Bangladeshi-American physician, Dr. Iftikher Mahmood, HOPE Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh was founded with the goal of serving the vulnerable communities. Bangladesh is continuously striving to improve its maternal and newborn health care but yet struggling with its high maternal, newborn and child mortality rates. Most of these deaths could be prevented with mass education programs and early intervention with primary care. The ratio of healthcare workers and health facilities is significantly low and consequently, the health needs of this country are greatly challenged. The current healthcare system is often not equipped to provide the necessary care for the mass population. Dr. Mahmood wanted to change that and make a profound impact on the lives of common people by providing services for those who otherwise could not afford it. The impact that HOPE Foundation has in improving maternal health, neonatal health, child health, sexual and reproductive health, and health rights of the underserved people in southeastern region of Bangladesh, has resulted in a unique level of trust between HOPE Foundation and the community, the government, the UN agencies, as well as the international, national, and local development organizations.
