Mission Statement

Coral Restoration Foundation is the world’s largest non-profit dedicated to restoring coral reefs to a healthy state, in Florida and globally. Headquartered in the Florida Keys, CRF was incorporated in 2007 in response to the widespread loss of coral species on the Florida Reef Tract, the third largest barrier reef in the world. Since 2012, CRF has returned more than 240,000 endangered corals to restoration sites from Key Largo to Key West, restoring more than 39,673m2 of Florida’s Coral Reef. This work is carried out by a collaborative team of staff, interns, and countless volunteers.

About This Cause

Coral Restoration Foundation maintains a network of seven coral nurseries in the Florida Keys, the largest such network in the world. Our restoration methods are simple, cost-effective and allow us to grow and outplant a number of threatened coral species at a scale large enough to make a positive difference for our reefs. Our organization is restoring our oceans - one reef at a time. CRF is the only organization restoring reefs to a level that meets or exceeds guidelines set forth in NOAA's Acropora recovery plan. The time to take action for our oceans is now. CRF provides the opportunity for everyday individuals to make a difference for our reefs by lending their time, skills, and financial support to our restoration efforts. We seek to educate others on the importance of our oceans and we utilize science to inform our monitoring and restoration efforts. We engage individuals from across the country in our restoration activities, averaging 14,000 volunteer hours each year. We also operate an intern program to engage college students and recent graduates in coral restoration, community outreach, and non-profit management. As a result of our success and innovations, CRF is now at the forefront of international reef restoration efforts. We have become an international resource for the reef restoration community; providing training, techniques and technology, and, most importantly, hope through direct action on a massive scale. Our model is collaborative, and holistic, and our methods are freely available to practitioners everywhere; we are dedicated to creating broader infrastructure to support our work and that of the greater restoration community. In the last 5 years alone, we have demonstrated the ability to effectively leverage support to grow programs exponentially, scaling coral restoration at an unprecedented rate.
