Mission Statement
To improve the quality of life for low and moderate income people through community economic development and leadership training to allow parents, tenants and workers to build collaborative relationships, and revitalize their community be preserving and increasing affordable housing, improving education, creating jobs and childcare, addressing multicultural issues and immigrant rights, and improving government benefits.
About This Cause
POWER invests in recruiting, training, developing and supporting grassroots leaders in historically under-resourced communities who will lead our organization to win concrete policy victories that improve the quality of life for community members. We work to advance our vision for a Human Right to Housing and a Homes Guarantee at the local, state and federal levels of government, and to ensure racial, social, economic and environmental justice in all policies that impact the communities where we work. We advance our vision through public policy campaigns that aim to address deeply-felt policy failures that impacts our members' quality of life. We work directly with community members to train and develop community leaders who can organize their community and use people power to change corporate and government policies that impact their communities. Our community organizing strategy focuses on building power for marginalized people in underrepresented communities in order to win a seat at the table and a voice in the decisions that impact our communities. We believe our members, who are directly impacted by policies that drive inequity, must be at the center of crafting the solutions to correct these challenges.
