HOSPICE WITHOUT BORDERS

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to cultivate the causes of peace at the grass roots by bringing the transformative power of palliative care to all people. We work to do this in Washington State at our free homeless hospice and medical respite, Amahoro House, and in the Republic of Rwanda, where we work with the Ministry of Health and other non-governmental organizations, to improve peoples' access to pain medication and to provide home-based palliative care and hospice services to the destitute sick and dying.

About This Cause

Hospice Without Borders (HWB) is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit charitable organization founded in 2010 by Dr. David Slack and RN Angela Lee. All our services are provided free of charge. We say palliative care is fundamentally a peace-buidling activity, because our work is not merely focused on providing clinical care to patients and family carers (when people have family), but also upon cultivating in our community of volunteers and colleagues, greater compassion for the suffering of one another. In addition, our clear focus on improving access to opioid analgesics (primarily oral morphine solution), speaks to our strong conviction that access to pain relief is a fundamental human right.
