Mission Statement
Our primary mission is to contribute to the rehabilitation of children with physical and / or mental disabilities.
About This Cause
The Sociedad Pro Hospital del Niño is non-profit organization certified under Section 1101.01 (a)(2) and IRS 501(c)(3) with 96 years of experience serving the community. We are the only Pediatric Skill Nursing Home on the island that provides convalescence and long-term services to patients from 0 to 21 years of age with limited economic resources, referred and under the custody of the Department of Family. We currently have the capacity to serve a population of 37 children with chronic and serious illnesses, whether physical and / or mental. In addition to the Pediatric Skill Nursing Home (Casa de Salud), we have two other important programs to serve children and our community: we provide outpatient therapy services and have a specialized learning center called Centro de Aprendizaje del Niño (CAN). Therapy services are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and the Department of Education of Puerto Rico and are offered in homes, schools, and our center and, during this time of pandemic, through distance practice. We offer a wide range of therapy modalities: physical, speech, oral motor, occupational, and psychological. Established in 2011, the Centro de Aprendizaje del Niño (CAN) is an intensive learning and therapeutic center specialized in the development of academic, social, behavioral and communication skills for children from 2 – 5 years. All our participants have some type of diagnosis such as: Autism spectrum level 1 or 2, sensory problems, learning problems, language disorders and/or social communication disorder.
