Mission Statement
To provide a better way of life to children and youngsters from newborns to 21 years of age from low income families in Puerto Rico, who have been diagnosed with cancer, malformations or chronic illness, by paying for all their medical treatment and services not covered by their health insurance.
About This Cause
Formerly San Jorge Children's Foundation now Fundacion de Niños de Puerto Rico, we offer our services in 6 pediatric hospitals and hundreds of private medical offices throughout the Island. For the past 30 years we have been paying for medical services to children and youngsters, from newborns to 21 years of age, from low income families in Puerto Rico, diagnosed with cancer, physical or congenital malformations, or chronic disease . Among the services we cover are medical consults, MRI's, CT Scans, medication, laboratories, specialized studies, psychological and psychiatric therapy (in this specific case it includes the patient's immediate family) among many other services. Anything that is not covered by their health plan. We pay for these services at medical practices /offices, drugstores, Laboratories and pediatric hospitals in Puerto Rico. Some these hospitals are San Jorge Children's Hospital, Puerto Rico Children's Hospital, Auxilio Mutuo Pediátrico, Hospital Pediátrico de Puerto Rico and we also cover the pediatric Psychological program for Fundacion Stefano. We have the first Pediatric Palliative Care in Puerto Rico at the University Pediatric Hospital provided by 2 specialists. Established the 1st Hospital Education Program in Puerto Rico We have assisted over 580 students since 2006. We have one teacher present every day at the Oncology Ward in Puerto Rico Children's Hospital in Bayamon and another in the University Pediatric Hospital so they help them pass their grade while receiving treatment. Services provided throughout the Island to patients that cannot attend school due to treatment or medical condition with 11 certified teachers that visit with the patient while in the hospital or while recuperating at home. We help them not fall behind in school and make sure they can pass their classes and grade while in treatment. In the past year alone, provided 3,864 hours of art therapy to 525 patients through our School Program to patients hospitalized in the Mental Health Ward in San Jorge Children's Hospital. Through our Psychology and Psychiatric Program, provided 1,100 hours of therapy in 2023.
