About This Cause

California Wildlife Foundation collaborates with partner organizations to protect the state's rich diversity of wildlife species by acquiring, restoring, and managing sufficient habitat to sustain healthy populations over time. HISTORY: California Wildlife Foundation (CWF) was created in 1990 by a group led by the then Resources Agency Secretary to support the work of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (formerly California Department of Fish and Game). CWF expanded its reach to partner with federal, state, regional, and local agencies and organizations over subsequent years. CWF works with land trusts and other non profit organizations to implement wildlife and habitat projects on lands and easement-covered lands for public benefit. SERVICES: CWF’s primary role is to provide fiscal and administrative management services for agency-approved projects and programs. CWF’s project revenue comes from a variety of sources including grants, mitigation and program fees, as well as contributions. CWF manages investing mitigation and project funds for specific agency-directed projects. It assists professionals with scientific research projects and education. It publishes and distributes conservation information to businesses, schools, landowners, organizations, and community leaders.
