Mission Statement

The mission of the KlaasKids Foundation is to stop crimes against children.

About This Cause

Founded in 1994, the KlaasKids Foundation was established by Marc Klaas after the kidnap and murder of his 12-year-old daughter, Polly Hannah Klaas, in Petaluma, California. For more than twenty-eight years, KlaasKids Foundation has served as a national voice for children’s safety, assisting with searches across the country for missing children; hosting free Child Safety Events; partnering with technology companies to develop web tracking devices, apps, and other tools for parents to ensure their children’s safety; and advocating at both the state and national levels for legislation to protect children from violent crimes, and to provide prevention funding for at-risk youth. Through this work, the foundation seeks to give meaning to Polly’s death and create a legacy in her name that will be protective of children for future generations. KlaasKids Foundation receives no government support and is currently funded entirely by donations from individuals and corporations. As the Foundation moves into its 21st year of service and both the need for and scope of our work continue to grow, we have developed a strategic fundraising plan, which includes expanding our institutional fundraising efforts to engage more private foundations in our work.
