Mission Statement

The purpose of the United Religions Initiative is to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings

About This Cause

URI is laying a strong foundation for our next five years of global growth, focus, and impact. Our new Strategic Framework (2025-2030) will help guide our annual planning by articulating the key outcomes and measurable results URI aims to achieve by 2030, including: URI will expand its active interfaith presence from 113 to 124 countries, and our Cooperation Circles (CCs) grow 20% per year, with 200% overall global network growth by 2030. URI members will increase their sense of community connection, belonging, and effectiveness. URI will emerge as the “go-to” network for interfaith learning and collaboration to end religiously motivated violence and promote cultures of peace, justice, and healing. URI will train a rising generation of interfaith leaders how to design effective changemaking initiatives that attract seed funding and achieve measurable results. URI members will understand their potential role in preventing and healing from violence. 500 of our Cooperation Circles will be working to ensure that religion-related violence is reduced by 50% in the communities where URI violence prevention programs are being implemented. Indigenous knowledge and wisdom will be shared widely across the URI network to help advance healing for the Earth and all living beings. URI’s three Strategic Priorities outlined below are interdependent and mutually reinforcing. That is purposeful. To fulfill URI’s purpose and potential for impact, we need to do more than grow our network of CCs. We need to help build their capacities by providing engaging learning opportunities to strengthen their skills and interconnectivity. Together, we will address one of the greatest challenges of our day - ending religiously motivated violence. This ambitious aim will require a coherent but customized approach, region by region, country by country, to transform conflict and break cycles of violence. Annual work plans will specify creative cross-cutting initiatives that are designed to advance all three strategic priorities simultaneously in order to increase prospects for interfaith impact worldwide.
