HISTORY Founded in 1995, the mission of the California Association of Food Banks is to end hunger in California. Our vision is a well-nourished and hunger-free California, where all people have enough food to lead a healthy life. Our game-changing Farm to Family program was launched statewide in 2005 and now ships 164 million pounds annually of fresh fruits and vegetables from farms to food banks to people in need. CAFB co-founded the Alliance to Transform CalFresh in 2011 with a mission to improve California's dismal food stamp participation rate. CAFB also successfully advocated for the establishment of the State Emergency Food Assistance Program that year. In 2013, CAFB piloted the innovative Produce Education Program, which engages food bank clients to learn how to incorporate fruits and vegetables into a healthy diet. In 2015, CAFB's 20th year, we secured $62.5 million in emergency food assistance for Californians affected by the devastating drought. Today our network consists of 41 member food banks reaching over 2 million people in need.
