About This Cause

The Sacramento Stand Down Association has been actively working to end veteran homelessness in the both the city and county of Sacramento. Beginning in 1992, this organization has grown from a group of veterans and concerned citizens wanting to engage homeless veterans to a fully registered 501c (3) non-profit organization, managed and run entirely by volunteers. SSDA's support to the Sacramento homeless veteran community includes a standing up temporary resource centers several times a year that provide supportive services and respite for those who participate. Homeless veterans are provided sleeping accommodations, hot meals, clothing, showers, and other comfort support over 3 days. Most importantly, SSDA coordinates and provides to homeless veterans one-stop access to federal, state, and local support agencies, such as Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical, vision and dental services, VA benefits counselling and claims, Social Security Claims, DMV Identification Cards, housing and job referral counselling and assistance, substance abuse counselling and other services that help homeless veterans end their cycle of homelessness.
