About This Cause
German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley (GSRSV) is a tax-exempt (501-c-3) charitable organization dedicated to finding good homes for German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes potentially facing euthansia in animal shelters or whose caregivers can no longer keep them. Established in February 2001, GSRSV is operated primarily by one person, Brian Foran, but is supported by several foster caretakers and volunteers. GSRSV operates from a 45-acre property in Pleasant Grove, CA, 15 miles north of downtown Sacramento in south Sutter County. Up to 30 dogs reside at the GSRSV rescue facility in a cage-free, home-style environment! In fact, all but four of the dogs residing at GSRSV’s rescue facility share Brian’s house with him! (Most small animal rescue organizations lack a rescue facility and therefore rely solely on either foster homes or commercial kennels to house their dogs.) GSRSV relies heavily on donations to continue its operation. The property where GSRSV’s rescue facility is located was quite expensive, and to this day Brian pays a hefty mortgage (over $2200/month, including tax & insurance) to keep his rescue program running. The income from adoption fees doesn't begin to cover the expenses of veterinary care and food for the dogs at the rescue facility--let alone the mortgage. Between February 1, 2001 and October 1, 2014,GSRSV rescued 613 dogs and placed 600 of those dogs in new homes. Brian has always accepted dogs back from his adopters—for whatever reason—and has NEVER returned a dog to a shelter!
