Mission Statement
The aim of the IB Middle Years Program is to awaken the intelligence of students and teach them to recognize relationships between school subjects and the world outside the classroom. It aims to help students develop their personal understanding, their emerging sense of self and responsibility in their community. Along with a curriculum that follows Common Core guidelines, our IB students are involved in high level courses, a second language (Chinese-Mandarin, French or Spanish), community service and often in visual or performing arts. Each of our 1100 IB students does up to 15 hours of community service, so they learn about the importance of giving back to the local community. Some students feed the homeless, tutor at other schools, raise money for the children’s hospital, help care for animals at the SPCA, and volunteer at senior care facilities. Churchill offers outstanding opportunities for students to connect though academic or sports teams. Our academic teams, many of which compete on the national level, include: Science Olympiad, Speech and Debate, Future Business Leaders of America, History Day, and Science Bowl.
About This Cause
Churchill IB PTO is the organization on campus made up of the principal, the IB Coordinators and a group of parent volunteers. Their mission is to direct, support and advocate for the IB program. Churchill IB PTO pays for 100% of the teacher training required by the IB Organization. Each year we send 10-15 teachers to IB training and conferences at a cost of almost $1500 each. We also support our teachers by offering IB Mini-Grants of up to $8000, for projects or lessons which enhance the IB experience. Each year we work to upgrade the technology available to teachers and students such as mobile computer labs, ipads, flat screen TVs and more. We also support camp/field trip scholarships, science lab equipment, school dances, book fairs, and multicultural events. Parents support our organization by donating to The Annual Giving Fund and other fundraisers through out the year. All donations are tax-deductible.
