Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide fundamental quality childcare to the vulnerable population of Puertas del Paraíso in Ciudad Bolívar, Bogotá. Many of these families were displaced by Colombia's civil conflict. We offer daycare to 185 girls and boys between the ages of three months and 18 years. Children under the age of 5 attend full time. Children between 5 and 18 attend Cigarra before and after school. In addition to having a safe place to learn and play, we provide nutritional and psychological support, as well as help with school work. Cigarra also supplements their education with other activities not provided by their school, such as field trips, and music and technology classes. Another activity we provide is to have a senior group attend once a week to share their time and experiences with the children. Our belief is that these activities strengthen our children's development and will help them grow into resilient and upstanding adults.
About This Cause
Cigarra’s vision is to provide quality child care regardless of family income. We serve an underprivileged community facing social and economic strife, many of whom have fled violence in other parts of the country. We provide full-day care to children under the age of five and before- and after-school care to children under 18. We tend to all of our kids' needs through a holistic approach supplementing their schoolwork with classes and activities of our own, as well as caring for their physical and mental well-being. Our main focus is musical development, arts, technology, and English.
