Mission Statement

Hack the Hood provides Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and AAPI youth with tech skill-building programs and career navigation support that are grounded in justice and support economic development and growth.

About This Cause

Hack the Hood serves early-career Black, Latinx, AAPI, and Indigenous learners, ages 16-25, who experience the greatest barriers to accessing tech-based learning, opportunity, and careers. Hack the Hood aims to close the opportunity gap with free, accessible, and identity-affirming tech-based workforce development programs that prepare learners to enter the tech sector. We provide learners with experiential learning grounded in racial justice, practical and soft skill development, and community-building. Since its founding in 2013, Hack the Hood has made a significant impact in Oakland and the greater Bay Area: - Trained and empowered more than 1,500 youth of color with in-demand digital skills. - Helped launch numerous careers in the tech industry, breaking the cycle of generational poverty for our learners. - Piloted, adapted, and expanded tech skill-building and career pathway programs to meet the ever-evolving needs of the technology workforce and better prepare youth for future opportunities in tech. We continue to innovate and adapt to the changing landscape, ensuring that our programs remain relevant and impactful for years to come. Thank you for your support!
