Mission Statement
Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
About This Cause
The Boys and Girls Club of the Arkansas River Valley provides a safe and positive place for children to go after school daily from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. We serve a hot after-school meal to each child daily as well, serving approximately 1500 dinners weekly. In the summer, we offer a hot lunch to every child every day, as well as a daily snack. In the summer we provide this food to any child who walks through our doors at mealtime, regardless of their affiliation with our Club. We are currently able to offer all of these things at no extra cost to our children or their families. We also provide educational support, mentorship opportunities, and a host of small group programs. We engage our students year round with hands-on learning experiences through field trips, theme days, guest speakers, and community-based events hosted at the Club. Our facility has a library and homework room where free tutoring is available, a computer lab, and an art room where we host a variety of enrichment classes throughout the school year. Throughout the year, we are able to take our children to outdoor water parks, ice-skating rinks, bowling allies, movie theaters, splash pads, aquatics centers, wildlife camps, golf courses, and many parks/recreational facilities. Additionally, we host several community groups at our Club, in order to bring enrichment experiences to our kids. These groups included Tena’s Gymnastics, CrossFit Russellville, Russellville Police Department, Junior Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Fitness Center (Zumba and Youth Yoga), local wildlife experts, Arkansas Tech University Athletes, and many more. We have several theme days as well, where we engage students in everything from making ice cream Sundays to an afternoon full of water play and bump-n-jumps. These experiences are opportunities for learning and also provide children at our Club the chance to participate in activities they might not otherwise be exposed to. Additionally, our athletic leagues provide members with a safe avenue to explore sports and learn valuable lessons such as teamwork and respect. We offer league softball, basketball, flag football, and swim team to youth in our community. Currently, we offer cheer and dance at no cost to girls enrolled in our after-school program. This provides our kids and their families with positive, character-building experiences that impact their future in many ways. We truly believe that bright futures start here. The BGCARV conducts year round Behavior Guidance Oriented Programs as well, in 5 core areas: Character and Leadership, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. We are dedicated to offering programs that are educational to a diverse group of young people, while at the same time keeping youth engaged and having fun. Our members are able to interact with other kids from all backgrounds, as well as community volunteers as they participate in tutoring, physical activities, arts and crafts, and a myriad of other activities all in an inclusive environment under one roof. Our after-school program currently costs parents 50$/school year, or 18 cents an hour. If a child receives free and reduced lunch at school, he or she attends our Club at no charge.
