Mission Statement

To provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities a path to self-fulfillment through education, empowerment, spirituality, independence and work.

About This Cause

Holy Angels is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, support and empowerment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We create opportunities, allowing the highest level of independence possible for those we serve. We are a community for our residents and program participants, managed by a 25-member Board of Directors, licensed by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals as an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (ICF/DD). The Board is made up of the following committees: Executive, Risk Management, Finance, Resident Care, Development, Spiritual Care, and Advocacy. Holy Angels' mission is accomplished through longstanding community partnerships and a depth of experience that makes the organization unique and innovative. Holy Angels was established in 1965 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows and the Catholic Diocese to provide training and residential care to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, but went into independent status in 2008. Each year, more than 100 volunteers donate their time to enhance the lives of Holy Angels program participants, including the dozens of young professionals who serve as leaders through our Champions for Individuals with Disabilities group. The “Champions” volunteer and raise funds to help enrich the lives of Holy Angels’ residents. Major programs include AngelWorks, AngelCare and AngelUniversity. AngelWorks Day Program Social Enterprises – “To be unemployed and disabled is to be among the most marginalized groups in America.” -Wayne McMillan, President and CEO of the Bobby Dodd Institute Holy Angels believes that all people have the right to learn, to achieve and, in turn, find dignity and purpose in life. This belief is realized through the AngelWorks Day Program, an award-winning day program comprised of 5 Social Enterprises: Holy Rhino Coffee Enterprise, Business Services, Culinary Arts, Horticulture, and Creative Arts. In AngelWorks, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive work readiness training and coaching, and job placement, all in integrated settings. With support from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana, AdvoCare, the David Toms’ Foundation, Louisiana Master Gardeners and others, Phases I through III of the AngelWorks business plan have been implemented. Sustainment and quality outcomes justify enhancement to further support the rising community need, potential profitability, and development opportunities in Phase IV. The renowned products created by our residents through AngelWorks are sold in the Holy Angels’ David Toms’ AngelWorks Gift Shop and with local vendor partnerships. Counter Culture, Lewis’ Gifts, Kings Hardware, Maxwell’s Market, C&C Electric, the Moppet Shoppe and Rhino Coffee all partner with Holy Angels and carry our products. Phase IV of AngelWorks is enhancing established enterprises and continuing to develop a new enterprise. Rhino Coffee, owned by Andrew Crawford, and Holy Angels have created a signature blend of coffee, “Holy Rhino,” which provides AngelWorks with new job opportunities and sources of income. AngelUniversity – As an extension of our mission of empowerment, we have established AngelUniversity, an employee education and training program designed primarily to provide a career ladder for front line workers. In collaboration with Southern University, and Workforce Innovations for Northwest Louisiana, we created AngelUniversity and continue to offer entry level training in basic computing, business etiquette, and conflict resolution as well as advanced training in medication administration and applied behavioral analysis. AngelCare – The goal of AngelCare is for all clients to reach their maximum level of achievement and live in the least restrictive environment. Our Autism Center is available to serve anyone in the community with assessments, behavior plans, and customized job training. Healthy lifestyles are encouraged through aquatic therapy, biking, Bocce ball, yoga and many other recreational classes. Therapeutic enhancements and sensory stimulation are offered in our state of the art SNOEZELEN room. Therapeutic services include occupational therapy, speech therapy, and applied behavioral analysis. We employ certified Registered Behavior Technicians, who receive BCBA training on site as part of AngelUniversity in order to offer the highest quality “AngelCare” to our residents. Specialized communications techniques such as the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), are also practiced by our trained professionals.
