About This Cause

To learn who the women of the Junior League of Greater Covington are, take a look around our website Jlgc.net and see who we are and what we do. Our Mission Statement reads, “The Junior League of Greater Covington is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.” Move through the website and see that we fulfill our Mission Statement as community volunteers while enhancing our membership experience through leadership and community training, as well as personal growth. Nine visionary women who shared the mission of voluntarism and a commitment to their community established the Junior League of Greater Covington in 1977. Our Founding members’ vision continues to live on today as we serve the community. Over the years the Junior League of Greater Covington has developed, nurtured, and grown many projects that have turned into independent organizations still in existence today. The Junior League of Greater Covington played an instrumental role in the development of the YMCA for Western St. Tammany, Meals on Wheels, Youth Service Bureau, Kris Kringle (now called Toys for Tots), the Northlake Nature Center, and the Hwy. 190 Beautification Project to name a few. Today the League continues to develop projects that impact the community. The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany was our League’s most recent Signature Projects. League volunteers support the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany throughout the year in Outreach Programs such as Museum without Walls and Kids Town. Current community impact projects are Project Prom, and Girls’ Health Day and a Diaper bank partnership as well as developing Girl’s Health Literacy initiative. In the last from August -September in 2020, the Junior League of Greater Covington sent a grant to the Junior League of Lake Charles to assist in their rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Laura devastated the area, we hosted a blood drive, exceeding the established unit goals, and we successfully hosted a diaper drive raising more than 3,680 diapers. We continue to support other nonprofits in the area with our trained volunteers when the request for assistance arises.
