Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Spirit of Charity Foundation to support and facilitate patient-centered care, actively promote health and wellness and to advance medical research and education through fundraising efforts for the benefit of the University Medical Center New Orleans, its patients and friends.
About This Cause
The Spirit of Charity Foundation (SOCF) was founded and incorporated in November 1993 as a non-profit organization with an auxiliary relationship to the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (MCLNO) to include Charity and University Hospitals. SOCF’s founding purpose is to encourage philanthropic support for the charitable, educational and scientific needs of MCLNO that included sponsoring programs and events for the benefit of the hospital, its patients, and friends. With the change in administration of the hospital from public to private/public partnership and the change in hospital location to University Medical Center New Orleans (UMCNO), SOCF continues its purpose and mission at the new facility. SOCF offers patient assistance programs for UMCNO’s low income patients that provide prescriptions, nutritional supplements, durable medical equipment, and transportation to and from treatment and/or clinic appointments.
