Mission Statement
Our Food Pantry aims to alleviate hunger in families of low income by distributing food for a healthy, balanced diet. A well-balanced diet is particularly important for effective learning for minors, who are a large portion of those we serve. Additionally, over time a better diet may contribute to an increase in life expectancy in communities like Avondale. Life expectancy in Avondale is 68.2 years. Cincinnati overall: 76.7 years. Affluent areas (e.g. North Avondale/Paddock Hills): 87.1 years. * *The State of Black Cincinnati – 2015 Two Cities pp 48,49
About This Cause
We are a registered 501 C3 charity. (501 C3 is: 72-1603185). This pantry has been in existence since 1952 at several different locations. While started by the Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church, the First Unitarian Church has been a major partner for the last 15 years. The pantry is operated from it's own building and STAFFED ENTIRELY BY UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. In a typical year we distribute 350,000 to 500,000 lbs. of food (or more) to 1000 to 1500 unique clients. Unlike many pantries, we serve the entire metropolitan Cincinnati area without any zip code limitations. During the current rate of high inflation and reduced financial aid to clients who live on the edge of poverty, we are seeing an influx of new clients.
