Mission Statement

Mental Health Association Oklahoma is dedicated to promoting mental health, preventing mental disorders, and achieving victory over mental illness through advocacy, education, service, and housing.

About This Cause

In 1955, the Association became one of the first mental health associations in the nation. Two years later, it became a member of the Tulsa Area United Way. Among the Association’s early programs were socialization activities for individuals returning home after hospitalization. The Association also offered a suicide prevention hotline, a teen crisis hotline, and advocacy for the development of a community crisis unit, where patients could be evaluated rather than being held in jail. On April 8, 2014, the Association changed its name from Mental Health Association in Tulsa to Mental Health Association Oklahoma. It now advocates for all Oklahomans impacted by mental illness and homelessness.
